Judy Helms passed away peacefully at her daughter's home in Crawfordsville, Indiana on July 19, 2020 after a short battle with cancer at the age of 77.
Judy was born on October 3rd, 1942 to Jon and Mary Slof in Indianapolis Indiana. She attended Southport High School in Indianapolis and graduated from high school in Arlington Heights, Illinois in 1960. She later graduated from Indiana Central College with a degree in nursing.
Judy worked many jobs before finding her true passion in nursing. She was a registered nurse at Saint Francis Hospital in Beech Grove, Indiana for over 20 years.
Throughout her life, she enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She stayed in close contact with many of her friends from Southport High School attending their annual reunions. She loved to travel and enjoyed being close to water whether it be a lake, an ocean or the Gulf of Mexico. Upon retirement, she found much joy spending the winters in Naples, Florida. She even continued to work in nursing in Naples for a few years. She was an active member of her retirement community serving on the board of directors and as president of the association. She loved having family and friends visit her in Naples so she could take them to the beach.
Judy is survived by her three children; Tricia Mobley, Heidi Shultz and Tim (Lora) Alsup. Step-children; Tammy (Matt) Johnston and Scott Helms. Grandchildren; Holly, Cortney, Jonathan, Shelby, Emily, Jacob, Anna, Christopher and 10 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers Dennis(Jackie) Criggar , Clark (Angela) Criggar, and brother-in-law, Steve Payne, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bill Helms, and her beloved sister Donna Payne.
Judy will be truly missed by all that love her.
Friends and Family are invited to attend a memorial service on Friday, July 31st at Indiana Funeral Care in Greenwood, Indiana. A celebration of life/ visitation will be from 2-4 pm with a service to follow.
