Judith Ann McDowell Tansy passed from this earthly life to be with our Lord 01/03/2022 surrounded by her loving family.
Judith was born to the late Charles and Helen McDowell on 05/30/1942. Judith attended St Francis DeSales school and wet on to attend Scecina Memorial High School. She then attended Butler University and was a member of the sorority Trianon.
While at Scecina she created several great lifelong friendships that continued up to her death. The second Tuesday of the month euchre club was a highlight of her social life outside of family.
In 1961, Judith met the love of her life, Eugene Tansy. They were married on January 19, 1963. They went on to create a legacy of seven children, 29 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Judith's great pride was her family and faith. She raised her family in the Catholic faith and was an active member of St Philip Neri and then St Matthew parish. She worked for the parish of St Matthew for many years in the parish office and retired from the Archdiocese of Indianapolis. She continued to donate her time in the parish office and counting room for several years after retirement.
Judith was known for her sharp wit and sassy personality. You never knew what her tshirt might say or what would come out of her mouth. From her crazy socks with Berkenstock shoes to her always holiday specific earrings, she was the heartbeat of her family. Judith and Gene's home has always been the epicenter of the family and will continue to be so.
In April of 2012, Judith received the gift of second life in the form of a single lung transplant. It was a long road of recovery but with the loving care provided by her husband, Gene, she flourished. We were beyond blessed to have her for an additional 9+ years. While she was a more soft version of herself after the transplant, she never lost her sense of humor. She could be kind and compassionate as well as brutally honest when she needed to be.
Judith loved the outdoors. The family enjoyed camping together for many years. The spring ritual of shopping and planting brightly colored annuals was one that was looked forward to every year. When she was no longer able to do it herself, her husband and children made sure it happened. Her birthday and mother's day were always sure to bring colorful flats of flowers and hanging baskets galore to her yard.
Holidays, birthdays and just because brought the family together many times a year. The bonds that have been nurtured all of our lives will keep us together beyond the mourning of her loss. The last week of her life has brought the seven of us together like we have not been in years. The time spent as just the seven of us, sharing memories and experiences of our early lives has reinforced our love for each other.
Judith was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Helen McDowell, and sister Helen Rose McDowell Sullivan. She is survived by 5 brothers and 2 sisters.
Judith leaves behind to celebrate her life her husband, Eugene; children, Desiree(Fredrick) Davis, Gabriel(Jennifer) Tansy, Kieran(Stacey) Tansy, Rachel(Johnny) Lewis, Meghan(Eric) Cougill, Luke(Danielle) Tansy and Raphael(Stephanie) Tansy; 29 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; two pups(Duke and Hannah) and 3 fur babies(Rags, Otto and Grady).
