Joyce Annette English Nelson, 83, of Westfield, Indiana, died at 2:28 p.m. Wednesday, April 3, 2024 at IU Health North Hospital - Carmel following an illness.

Joyce was born November 27, 1940, in Galesburg, Illinois, the daughter of William Glen and Mattie Marie (Roach) English. She married Frederick Nelson on July 2, 1960, and they were married for 23 years.

She is survived by her children, Kim Rubendunst of Westfield, Indiana and Mark (Amy Allers) Nelson of Chicago, Illinois; grandson, Robert Beau (Maggie) Rubendunst, and granddaughter Annie Rubendunst; one sister, Glenda Inness of Galesburg; and nieces and nephews, Kari Forster, Erin Morris and Ron VanFleet. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Bob English.

Joyce was a lifelong resident of Galesburg, Illinois, recently moving to Indiana. She graduated from Corpus Christi High School in 1958 and attended Carl Sandburg College and graduated from Western Illinois University. She worked at OMC for 9 years and later worked at Carl Sandburg College in the library, until retiring in 2006.

Joyce led a vibrant life. From bicycling through England and Scotland to extensive rides from Washington State to destinations in Illinois, and Mexico, and other adventures. Beyond cycling, her favorite hobbies were gardening and quilting, earning recognition with two quilts at the 2018 quilt show.

Her greatest loves were traveling, following her favorite baseball teams - the New York Yankees from her father and the Chicago Cubs from her mother - and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and her grand dogs.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, May 4, 2024 from 1 - 3 at Sidetrax Bar and Grill in Galesburg, Illinois.
