Joyce King

Joyce Ann King, 83, completed her Life's Journey quietly and joined her loved ones in Heaven on Sunday, January 21st, 2024. Joyce began her journey on May 17th, 1940 in Terre Haute, Indiana. She was born to her loving parents, David H. and Ann L. Bennett. 

Joyce tended towards teaching at an early age with Brownies and Girl Scouts by accepting leadership positions including summer camp counseling services. Joyce was a proud Garfield High School graduate in 1958, a happy 1962 graduate of Indiana State Teachers College with a Bachelor of Science, and in 1969 she earned her Master's degree in elementary education from Indiana State University. Her first teaching position was in Indianapolis at old IPS #33, then in the Ben Davis area at Westlake Elementary School, and finally retiring after 25 years in the Center Grove School Corp. After retirement, she tutored extensively for 10 more years before tending to her flowers and plants.

Joyce met Gary King on October 23rd, 1958, and they were married June 16th, 1962. They are the proud parents of Gary King II, who was born in 1962, and the late Michael Ryan King, born in 1974 and preceded Joyce in death in 2021. Joyce is survived by her loving husband, Gary King; and her son; Gary King II.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to the Johnson County Hospital Emergency Room Services and the I.U. Critical Care Unit at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, Indiana. 

There will be a visitation and memorial service on Friday, February 2nd, 2024, at St. Barnabas Catholic Church. The visitation is from 3:00pm to 4:00pm with the memorial service to follow at 4:00pm.
