Kay McKinney, age 81, passed away on Saturday, July 27, in Indianapolis. She was an Army Brat born to John and Martha Yount in Ft. Benning, GA in 1942. Her childhood was spent traveling the southern states while her father attended military schools. When he was overseas, the family returned to Ohio to live with her grandparents. Her father’s final station was Ft. Harrison. They stayed in Indianapolis and claimed it as home.
She graduated from Lawrence Central High School in 1960 and played an active role in planning reunions over the years. She was a legal secretary until 1980 when she retired to be a stay-at-home mom. She created the company, Accurate Typing Service, in which she would transcribe tapes for attorneys, courts, private investigators and insurance companies.
She was an avid traveler and visited places such as Japan, Greece, Ireland and Israel. In her spare time she loved working in her garden and going to yard sales in search of hidden treasures. She was a devout Christian and was an active member of Lawrence United Methodist Church for many decades.
Kay is survived by sons David Fresher, Kevin McKinney (Joyce), daughter Kim Papanikandros (Ly), brother John B. Yount (Judith), sister Linda (Mike) Hoyt, Nephew Jonathan (Laura) Yount and niece Jacqueline (Chris) Farrell, great-nieces and great-nephews, 4 step-grandchildren and 2 step-great-grandsons. She was preceded in death in 2015 by her husband, Rev. James McKinney.
Visitation will be at Lawrence United Methodist Church on Saturday, August 17 starting at 11am with a memorial service at 12pm.
