John Robert Christopher Bradley, age 73, of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away at 1:51 p.m. on Saturday, January 4, 2020 in his home. He was born to the late Edmund J. and Helen M. (Markey) Bradley on May 20, 1946 in Indianapolis, Indiana.
John was united in marriage on March 8, 1968 to Carol L. (York) Bradley in Indianapolis and she passed away on February 1, 2019. John, also known as ‘Big John’ worked as a serviceman for Citizens Gas for 39 years. In addition to working for Citizens Gas, John also served as volunteer fireman for Perry Township for many years as well as held a Broker/ Real-estate license, working for FC Tucker for a time. John was a proud Catholic and devoted to Christ and Discipleship. He belonged to St Jude Parish and then after moving further south in the early 90’s, claimed his parish as St. Barnabas Catholic Church. At St. Barnabas he was a proud member of CRHP #8 in February of 2000, where he experienced a deep renewal in his Catholic faith. Most recently, at St. Barnabas, John taught catechism to middle schooled aged children and was passionate about sharing his Catholic Faith. All said, John’s greatest ministry and accomplishment was dutifully and lovingly caring for his ailing wife during the last ten years of her life; his devotion and love for her was astounding and awe inspiring to those who knew him. John had a great love for family all around. One of his greatest pas times was archiving pictures and tracing back his family line as far back as the early 1700’s. Lastly, John will also be remembered for his great talents in fixing all things as well as his sweet, kind, and gentle spirit.
John is survived by his loving and only daughter, Margaret (Bradley) Beckner and her husband Brady Beckner; his grandchildren, Elliott and Ethan Beckner; his brothers, Edmund Joseph Paul Bradley, Michael Thomas Bradley, and Stephen Francis Bradley; his nephews, Dr. David Blackwell, Mark Robinson, Daniel Robinson, and Mark Bradley; and his nieces, Angela Johnson, Elizabeth Blackwell, Brenda Kay (Robinson) Hudson, Renee Marie Robinson, Beverly Suzanne (Robinson) Knee, Michele Ann (Robinson) Tucker, Julie Jones Gugliuzza, Heather (Bradley) Fortenbury, Maddie Bradley, Betsy Bradley, and Mary Bradley.
In addition to his parents and wife, John is preceded in death by his three sisters, Carol Ann Bradley, Mary Helen (Bradley) Blackwell, and Suzanne Catherine (Bradley) Robinson, as well as his step-mother, Catherine E. (Fitzpatrick) Bradley.
Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 10, 2020 at St. Barnabas Catholic Church, 8300 Rahke Road, Indianapolis, Indiana 46217. The Mass of Christian Burial will start at 1:00 p.m. at St. Barnabas with Father Daniel J. Mahan officiating. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, 435 North Troy Avenue, Indianapolis, Indiana 46225. In lieu of usual remembrances, direct memorial contributions to St. Barnabas Catholic Church.
