Dr. John Carmen "Jack" Linson, M.D., of Indianapolis, passed away on December 10, 2024, at the age of 86, after a prolonged battle with cancer and vascular disease. Born in Indianapolis on September 4, 1938, Jack was a lifelong Hoosier whose legacy as a father, grandfather, and physician will remain with those who knew him.
Jack graduated from Southport High School in 1956. He went on to study medicine at Indiana University, where he met and married Kay Gilbert in 1961, and ultimately earned his medical degree in 1963.
Following medical school, Jack moved to California to complete a residency in Family Practice. Then, after spending two years as an adjunct physician affiliated with the Coast Guard in Lexington, Kentucky, he settled in Seymour, Indiana, in 1966. There, he opened a private practice and served the Seymour community for over 25 years. He was active in the local Jaycees organization and, for a time, played violin with a local orchestra in Columbus, Indiana.
Known for his professional dedication, Jack was also recognized for his personal traits. He had a challenging relationship with punctuality and often struggled with follow-through, yet those close to him appreciated his attempts at sincerity and his mostly blunt honesty.
In his later years, Jack was an active member of All Saints Episcopal Church, where he sang in the choir.
Jack was preceded in death by his son Robert. He is survived by his ex-wife Kay, sons David (Lisa) and Philip (Staci), and five grandchildren: Adam, Alexis, Josephine, Davis, and Elizabeth. His family and friends will remember him for his contributions to the medical field and his humorous, dry wit.
A memorial service will be held at Indiana Funeral Care at a date yet to be determined. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
