John Darwin Herkless

John Darwin Herkless, 69, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away on November 30, 2023, at IU Methodist
Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born on July 1, 1954, in Indianapolis, IN, to the late Michael Billman
Herkless and Patricia Anne (Mackey) Herkless. John lost his first mother shortly after his first birthday. His second mother came into his life when he was four and his father married Margaret Jean (Wernicke) Herkless and she subsequently adopted him.  He graduated from Northwest High School and honorably served six years in the U.S. Navy. He had a keen interest in electronics and computer repair and was an avid poker player.
John is survived by three brothers, Michael, Edward, and James and one sister, Dianne Gordon, as well as six nephews and nieces: Stephen Schilling (Emily), Cari Gordon (Donnie Couch), Bobbi Gordon, Bryan Herkless, Shelby Herkless, and David Herkless and seven great-nephews and nieces.  He was preceded in death by all of his parents.
A private family service will be held at a later date and time.
