John David Daugherty

John David Daugherty, of McCordsville, Indiana, passed away on July 16, 2022, at the age of 83. He was born in the family home in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Hugh and Olive Daugherty on July 15, 1939.

John graduated from Tech High School before enlisting in the United States Air Force in 1957, serving for 4 years for his country. During his enlistment he worked in communications; he learned to speak Turkish during the roughly 2 years he was stationed in Adana, Turkey. Upon his honorable discharge, John began attending Indiana University where he took night classes for 10 years to obtain his bachelor’s degree in business in the early 1970s. He married Nancy Jean Christman on October 24, 1964, and subsequently fathered 2 sons: Scott and Stephen.

During John’s career he was the D.P. Manager at Allied Grocers for approximately seven years. At that point, he began working with Computer Management Systems (CMS) as Vice President and one of five owners. John sold out to another partner in the early 80s and pursued entrepreneurial endeavors, including the founding of several small businesses in the Indianapolis area.

In his free time, John enjoyed golfing and running (including many half- and three full- marathons). He was an avid reader of non-fiction, especially if the subject involved anything about history. Being a history buff, he visited several Civil War sites. In fact, travel was one of his biggest passions in life; he visited all 50 US states and 6 continents. He even climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro. John’s family and friends will always remember him as being the life of the party. He loved to tell jokes, and he always had one ready for any given situation!

John was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh and Violet Olive (Waymire) Daugherty and siblings, Mary Ann, Elma, Norma, and Bud.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory: his loving wife of 57 years, Nancy (Christman) Daugherty and their two sons, Scott (Mindy) and Stephen (Karen) Daugherty, as well as granddaughters Jordan and Brooke Daugherty, Kristen Altman, and Amanda (Paul) Patterson; great-grandchildren Vincent Altman and Makena Patterson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
