Joanne Watson Dwyer, 94 of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her loved ones, on Sunday, November 19, 2023. She was born on November 22, 1928 to James Harry and Agnes Rosemary Watson.
She was a lifelong resident of Indianapolis, attending St. Agnes Academy. She thoroughly enjoyed her post-high school careers at Blocks department store and the Indianapolis Star before leaving work to start a family with her husband, Herbert, whom she married in 1954.
Joanne was a charter member of Nativity Catholic Church, where she was very involved in several committees and organizations over the years. She was instrumental in fundraising for the Little Sisters of the Poor, where she spent countless hours managing the Country Store during the early years of the festival. She will be remembered for her passion for serving others. She enjoyed spending time with the women in the Homemakers club of Nativity, since 1969.
Joanne was lovingly referred to as “Jogie” by all who knew and loved her. She adored her family and loved spending time with them. She had boundless love for and took great pride in her own children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Joanne is preceded by her husband, Herbert L. Dwyer, Jr., grandsons, Nicholas R. Diaz, and Matthew David Soto, and brother James H. Watson (Viva).
She is survived by her sister Patricia J Shockley, children Janis (David) Curtiss, Herbert (Mary), Edward (Margarita), Marian (Joe) Borondy, Paula (Tim) Beloat,
Grandchildren, Lorenzo (Lluvia), Carmen, Erin, Ryan, Evan, Ava, Anna, Tomas, Joseph, Logan (Rio), Taylor, Steven Luke (Becky); Great Grandchildren Mary Jane, Owen, Roman, Max, Nicolas, Loraina, Steven, Gavin, Everett, Aveline, and several beloved nieces and nephews and extended family and friends.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt gratitude to Jogie’s dedicated caregivers, whom she loved dearly - Silvie, Christy, and Tammy- and with special recognition to Jennifer - who faithfully visited Jogie weekly as her hospice music therapist, these sessions truly embraced Jogie’s passion for music and fond memories of her own beautiful singing voice.
She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Services will be held 12:00 pm on Wednesday November 22, 2023 , her 95th birthday at Nativity Catholic Church 7225 Southeastern Ave, Indianapolis IN 46239. Visitation one hour prior to service. Private family burial at Calvary Cemetery.
