Jimmy “Jim” Campbell, 72, of Indianapolis, Indiana, closed his eyes for the last time in this life, and opened them for the first time in eternity with Jesus, his Savior at 9:30 AM on January 4, 2021. Jim passed peacefully at his home and with his loving family.
Born June 13, 1948 in Athens, Alabama, to Grady and Laura Campbell, Jim was the younger of two children. Jim attended Athens High School where he graduated in 1966 before later moving to Indianapolis. Jim met his wife Teresa while serving as an usher at Crossroads Baptist Church. The two were married in 1982 and spent the next 38 years together in the Little Flower neighborhood of Indianapolis’ Eastside. While the two had no children
together, Jim was a strong, godly example to his two stepsons – and to all who knew him.
Jim worked at RCA before embarking on a career with Stanley Tools from which he would retire in 2002. In his spare time, Jim enjoyed learning about the Civil War and following the NASCAR racing season. Over the years he enjoyed many hobbies including archery, metal detecting, painting, building models, and being a collector of many things.
Jim was a loyal family man and the quintessential southern gentleman. However, his greatest love was reserved for his Savior. Jim was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ and witnessed powerfully for Him by the humble, but strong and consistent life he lived, day in and day out.
Although Jim was a quiet and unassuming man, he nevertheless had great sense of humor and enjoyed laughing with his family and sharing an occasional joke. Jim’s godly influence extended even further in 1999 when the first of his three grandchildren was born. “Grandpa Campbell” greatly loved his grandchildren Alexandria (21), Corbin (17), and Summer Adkins (16), and before his health started to decline, very much enjoyed spending time with them and attending their various school and extracurricular activities.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, and is survived by his beloved wife, Teresa; stepson Todd Adkins and his wife Kelly; stepson Scott Whitaker; three grandchildren; sister Georgia Dunnavant and her husband Floyd, and their children Greg Dunnavant and Gina Wagner.
Visitation will be held on January 11, 2021, from 11:00 AM–Noon, with a funeral service immediately following.
