Jewell Dean Etienne, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, passed away peacefully on September 2, 2024 at the age of 85. Born in Campbellsburg, KY on September 16, she moved to Madison, IN as a child and later settled into her home in Indianapolis. She lived a life full of love, adventure, creativity and home.
She was a devoted wife to Duane, sharing a bond that was inspirational to all who knew them. Her love extended to her children and grandchildren, who were the light of her life. She created an even greater family with her many friends and extended family. Her home was always filled with warmth, laughter and the smell of her wonderful home cooked meals.
Her creativity was expressed through her travel adventures, her painting and her love of books. Jewell and Duane shared a love of travel which took them across the globe and across America to seek out beauty in other places and cultures; however, the small town of Madison and the rolling hills of northern Kentucky always held a special place in her heart. Taking inspiration from these places, she was a passionate watercolor artist. She created beauty through her paintings of flowers and rural landscapes. She also was an avid reader, taking great joy in books.
Jewell was preceded in death by her oldest child, Frankie Dattilo, her loving mother, Bessie Popp Bever, her father, John Pryor, her sisters, JoAnn (Jack) Carder, Linnie (Ray) McCracken and Cathy Pryor, and her brothers, Robert Pryor and David (Pat) Pryor.
Jewell is survived by her loving husband, Duane, her daughter, Julie (Kevin) Sage, her son, John Dattilo, her grandchildren, Jeremy (Pedra) Sage, Daniel (Kristi) Sage, Joseph (Anna) Sage and her great grandchildren, Adeline, Aleksander, Hazel, Violet, Ryker, Katie, Charlie and Mila.
A memorial service will be held on September 17, 2024, at 10:30am at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 4600 N. Illinois St, Indianapolis, IN 46208. The time for the service is currently pending. This posting will be updated once the time of service has been confirmed.
