Jerry Piety

Jerry H. Piety, Indianapolis, passed away peacefully October 12, 2023.

Jerry was a 60-year resident of Franklin Township and retired 28-year veteran of The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.

He was born April 26, 1938, in Oaktown, Indiana to Robert S. Piety and Thelma L. Piety. The family moved to Indianapolis and Jerry graduated from Arsenal Technical High School in 1956. He married the love of his life, Phyllis (Joie) DeCenzo in 1958. Jerry became a police officer in 1962 and retired in 1990.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Joie, his sons Jeff (Joy), and Jay (Tammy) of Indianapolis, and Darin (Ann) of St. Augustine, Florida. Grandchildren are Brandon (Laura), Matthew (Samantha), Ryan (Karen), Ross, Justin, and Kyle. Great grandchildren are Ruby, Stella, Conrad, Ava, Isla and Kaleo.

A private service is planned for family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family asks you make a donation to The Police Athletic League to benefit area youth programs. Checks may be payable to Indy Public Safety Foundation and mailed to 200 E. Washington Street E241, Indianapolis, Indiana 46204.
