Jerry Lee Kerkhof, 85, of Westfield Indiana passed away on May 13, 2020. He was born on September 14, 1934 in Indianapolis. He will be buried with military honors at a small, graveside service.
Jerry was a retired Attorney at Law; founder and past president of Jerry Kerkhof, Inc. car dealership and Kerkhof Realty, Inc.; a Kentucky Colonel, a Reserve Captain and veteran of the US Air Force; and President of the Board of Directors for Ivy Tech College (1968).
A Westsider of Indianapolis, Jerry graduated from George Washington High School where we was Lt. Colonel of the R.O.T.C. (Battalion Commander), Top Scholar in 1952, Captain of the Rifle Team, President of the Honor Society, Delegate to Hoosier Boy State, and member of the track team. He was awarded a full scholarship to Columbia University in his senior year.
Jerry graduated from Columbia University in New York City in 1956. At Columbia, Jerry was a member of the track team, an officer of Phi Kappa Psi fraternity, and a member of the Blue Key Society. He received the Republic Aviation Award in his senior year of R.O.T.C and became a commissioned officer in the US Air Force.
Jerry was discharged from the Air Force as a 1st Lieutenant. He was stationed at Little Rock Arkansas, Clark Air Base in the Philippines, and traveled extensively throughout the Far East as an Auditor in the Auditor General’s Office.
Jerry graduated from Indiana University of Law in Indianapolis. Jerry was President of his law fraternity, Phi Alpha Delta. He received his Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree in 1975 and served as a volunteer public defender.
He was a long standing member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Indianapolis and St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church in Westfield.
He is survived by his loving family - wife of 63 years Diana (Barber); son Lee (Leslie); daughter Leslie (Anthony) Zogheib; daughter Carolyn (Scott) Wahl; daughter Donna (Scot) Johnson; daughter Kathy (Muno) Henderson; son Michael (Susan); son Matthew; son Kenny; 15 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
