Jerome "Jerry" P. Ledford

On Monday, January 6, 2020, Jerome “Jerry” P. Ledford, loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and colleague passed away at the age of 80 due to complications from COPD.

Jerry was born on January 17, 1939 in Alexandria, Indiana to Bart and Clara Ledford. He graduated from Alexandria Monroe High School and served in the United States Air Force. He then attended Ball State University, receiving his Bachelors’ degree. Jerry worked as an Executive Director for the American Heart Association for 31 years. After retirement, he continued to work for several years for Houghton-Mifflin Book Publishing.

On March 2, 1968, he married Marie Mainguy. They raised five sons, Greg, Kevin, Eric, Kirk, and John.
He was a highly engaged father, and grandfather and was exceptionally proud of his 11 grandchildren and their various accomplishments.

Jerry was an avid golfer and crossword puzzle extraordinaire. When not found on any of the local golf courses, he would be found at the kitchen table with pen in hand, watching Notre Dame football or IU basketball on the television, while completing his many crossword puzzle books.

Jerry was preceded in death by his father, James Bartley “Bart”, his mother Clara, siblings Martha “Jane” Gallen, Rosemary Hammond, Charles, Jim, Ann, and son, Greg. He is survived by his wife Marie and his sons, Kevin (Kristina) Ledford, Eric (Jennifer) Ledford, Kirk (Nicole) Ledford, John (Keyna) Ledford, and daughter-in-law Denise Ledford.

A memorial service and rosary will be held on Friday, January 17, 2020 at St. Simon the Apostle Catholic Church, 8155 Oaklandon Rd., Indianapolis, Indiana 46236 from 7 pm to 9 pm. Mass will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2020 at St. Simon the Apostle Catholic Church at 9 am with burial to follow at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Cemetery, 9001 Haverstick Rd., Indianapolis, Indiana 46240.

In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the American Heart Association.
