Jerald "Jerry" Burton Gillespie

Jerald Burton Gillespie, 83 of New Whiteland, Indiana passed away Monday, August 28, 2023, at his home with family.

He was born on Tuesday, July 2, 1940, to the late Samuel Issac and Clara Mae (Portis) Gillespie in Indianapolis, Indiana. Jerry, as many knew him graduated from Center Grove High School in 1958. He played on Center Grove’s first High School football team. In September 1960 Jerry went into the U.S. Navy and served as a submariner until 1964 when he was honorably discharged.  After returning from the Navy, he worked as an Electrician for several companies such as Brehob Electric and Crane Naval Base but he worked for General Motors for the majority of his career and retired in 2000.

Jerry’s favorite past times were fishing, football, and fixing things.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Sam, and Clara Gillespie of Greenwood, IN and sister’s Mary Lee Kisor (Lee) of Olympia, WA, Susan Cummings of Indianapolis, IN and Judith M. Gillespie of Columbus, IN.

Jerry is survived by his wife of 45 years, Deborah Kay (Gorman) Gillespie of New Whiteland, IN; brother, David Gillespie of Trafalgar, IN; sister Sarah “Sallie” Webster of Taylorsville, IN; daughters, Teresa Richter (Jim) of Indianapolis, IN, Kelly Long of Greenwood, IN, Kimberly Long of Greenwood, IN; sons, Todd Gillespie of New Whiteland, IN, Clint Gillespie of Westville, IL; step-son, Scott Gorman of New Whiteland, IN; 9 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
