Jean S. Johnson, 91, passed away surrounded by family on September 29, 2023, at her home in Fishers, Indiana. She was born on March 11, 1932, in Trenton, New Jersey. After finishing high school, Jean graduated with a bachelor's degree from The University of Rhode Island, where she met her future husband, William E. Johnson. They were married in 1953 in Trenton, New Jersey, and later moved to Levittown and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Their daughter Cindi was born while they lived in Pittsburgh and their son Dan was born after they established themselves in Crown Point, Indiana.
While living in Crown Point, Jean was an active homemaker. She was an avid golfer, enjoyed bowling, volunteering in her community, and hosting/attending bridge club. She was also very involved with her children and their activities. In her later years in Crown Point and beyond, Jean knit baby hats for the local hospital, delivered for Meals on Wheels and spent as much time with family as she could - traveling to see her grandchildren whenever possible. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister, Ruth Akroyd, and granddaughter, Kalor Johnson. Jean is survived by her children Cindi (Pete) Tunnicliffe and Dan (Kaylee) Johnson, grandchildren Casey (Jessie) Rojas, Matt (Natalie) Tunnicliffe, Luke and Kenli Johnson, Alex (Suzette) Bein, great-grandchildren Amari and Ellis Rojas and Kane and Waylon Tunnicliffe, and four nieces and nephews.
Gamma, as she was lovingly referred to by many, enjoyed watching the Chicago Cubs and Hallmark Christmas movies, knitting baby hats, playing iPad games, writing letters, eating dessert first and spending time with her family. Gamma always said that every story should, “have a happy ending,” and while her presence will be greatly missed, her 91 years were so full of life, love, and joy.
In lieu of flowers, her family is asking for donations to:
