Janet Lawson

September 2, 1945 — January 1, 2025

Janet Lucretia (McCray) Lawson was born on September 2, 1945, to Fred and Fay McCray. Born in Indianapolis Indiana, she was the 6th of 7 siblings. She loved all her siblings dearly. Her older siblings started their adult lives when she was a young girl. The family of 4 including her younger sister Joy traveled from Indianapolis to Princess Lakes for weekend camping trips. Her father converted a milk truck into a comfortable sleep space for the family. The family enjoyed the area of Princess Lakes so the decision to move there was an easy one. Janet was 14 years old when she attended Nineveh schools. She was loved by all her classmates and was the prom queen.

Janet met Gerald who became her husband of 53 years, at school when the family moved to the area. They were married on July 1, 1962 at Nineveh Christian Church. All who knew them witnessed a great love and joy they shared in being together.

She will be lovingly remembered by her child Terri (Paul) Hoopengarner; grandchildren, Jaclyn Parnell, Brock Parnell; sister, Joy( Bill) Woodall; as well as many extended family and dear friends.

Janet was a sweet, selfless soul. Janet devoted herself to her family and always put others before herself to ensure we were all taken care of. She was blessed to be a stay at home mom in her daughter’s early years. She was a loving and proud grandma to Jaclyn and Brock. She proudly worked and retired from Indiana Masonic Home ( Compass Park) for 18 years. The friendships made there brought her joy. She was a people person. She attended monthly luncheons with her classmates from Nineveh. Janet enjoyed dancing, including clogging which she traveled locally to perform. She enjoyed cooking, baking. She was well known to have the best pies, cobblers and ice tea. Family loved to stop by their home and have some of these delights. She liked spending time outdoors, traveling with family, casino time and enjoying family moments. She will be missed beyond measure by all of us who loved her!

Preceded in death by her beloved husband Gerald W. Lawson; daughter Roxanne Lawson; brothers, Richard McCray, Jack McCray, Larry McCray, Don McCray; sister Cherie Paradise; mother Fay McCray; father Fred McCray
