James E. (Jim) Hendricks left this world on October 31, 2020, to spend eternity with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He was born May 4, 1925, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to the late Leland F. and Mildred M. (Volk) Hendricks.
Jim graduated from Tech High School in 1943. He then enlisted in the United States Army Air Forces (USAAF) graduating as 2nd Lieutenant Multi Engine Pilot and served until the end of World War II.
On April 12, 1947, he married the love of his life, Peggy L. (Swinford) Hendricks. They spent 73 wonderful years together and will look forward to reuniting in Heaven. Jim was a devoted husband who continued to care for Peggy until his passing.
After 33 years of service with the Indianapolis Postal Service, he retired from middle management in 1980. He then worked for Automatic Data Processing (ADP) for 7 years. Jim also served 26 years on the Board of Directors of the Indianapolis Post Office Credit Union.
Jim was a member of Castleview Church, a Past Master of Millersville Masonic Lodge and a Member of Indianapolis Scottish Rite. As a former member of the Murat Shrine and past president of the Transportation Club, he was a volunteer driver transporting handicapped children to Shriners Hospital in Chicago, IL, Lexington, KY, and Cincinnati, OH.
Jim was an avid race fan of IndyCar & NASCAR having attended the Indianapolis 500 over 60 times from 1946-2011. He also had an easygoing nature so everyone who met him loved him. His memory will live on with all of those he loved.
Jim is survived by his wife, Peggy Hendricks, children, Greg (Christine) Hendricks, Glenna Hendricks, Grandchildren, Brad Hendricks, Kevin (Sarah) Hendricks & Erica Hedge and Great Grandchildren, Samantha, Nathan, Kenlee and Layla. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Lois Hendricks, and brothers, Bob Hendricks and Don Hendricks.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 5, 2020, at Indiana Funeral Care (formerly Harry W. Moore Mortuary), 8151 N. Allisonville Road, Indianapolis, Indiana. A masonic funeral service will take place at 1:00 p.m. and graveside services with military honors will be held at 3:00 p.m. at Lincoln Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Whitestown, Indiana.
