James P. Johnston

James Phillip Johnston, age 77 died at home in Indianapolis, Indiana on 4/17/2023 after a long battle with cancer.

Jim was born on January 29, 1946 in Detroit, Michigan to George T Johnston and Margaret Pawlicki Johnston.  The family moved to Indianapolis in 1957 where Jim graduated from Cathedral High School in 1964.  He served in the army in the Southern European Taskforce during the Vietnam War. Returning to civilian life he began working for Indiana National bank and retired from Bank One over 30 years later. 

Jim married Karan Blanchard July 16, 1977 at Christ The King Catholic Church in Indianapolis. They have happily resided in North East Indy for most of their almost 46 years of marriage. 

He loved traveling with Karan, whether it was driving to various parks and scenic sights or going to Africa on safari. He was a fan of college sports, home projects, and the Indianapolis zoo where Karan volunteers

Their home was the meeting place for family gatherings and playtime with Uncle Jim.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, sister Judy Meyer, niece Barbara Lower, and great nephew Nathan Tamosaitis.  He is survived by his wife and best friend Karan, brother Jeff Johnston, sister Kathy Johnston Rader, brother in law Richard Rader, sister in law Janet Brandt, and many nieces and nephews,

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Christ The King Catholic Church or  St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
