James (“Jim”) Erwin, 72, of, Carmel, passed away on October 23rd, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his loved ones.
Jim was born in Cleveland, Ohio before moving to Indiana and attending Broad Ripple High School. Throughout his childhood he loved all things sports and could often be found playing basketball, baseball, or football with the local Broad Ripple crew. His friends viewed him as a natural athlete with a competitive spirit, and someone who was kind, loving, and loyal.
Jim was a devoted husband, father, and friend. He married to the love of his life, Patricia, for 25 wonderful years until her passing in 2014. Their love and commitment to one another was felt by all who met them. Together, they built a loving home and raised three children who were the center of their world.
Jim’s passions included cheering on the Colts, Pacers, and Reds, while also having a lifelong love of music and cinema. He was always eager to share his favorite artists, and test you on, “who sang this song?”, or “do you know what album this is from?”, and of course he always knew the answer. Later in life he cherished long walks with his beloved dog Ollie, who was by his side every step of the way for the last 10 years. Jim’s greatest source of joy came from spending quality time with his children, Bill, Brett, and Brianne, along with his two daughter-in-laws, Amanda and Soren.
Jim’s gentle spirit, warm heart, and outgoing personality will be remembered by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Patricia Erwin, his mother Nancy Erwin (Maynard), father Thomas B. Erwin, brother Thomas Erwin and his eldest brother JD Erwin. He leaves behind his children, Bill Erwin, Brett Erwin, and Brianne Erwin, who will forever carry his love and legacy with them.
A visitation will be held on Friday, November 1st from 2-4pm with a memorial service starting at 4pm, at Indiana Funeral Care – 8151 Allisonville Rd., Indianapolis, IN 46250. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Susan G. Komen foundation to help with the fight against Breast Cancer.
