James (Jim) was born in London, Kentucky on January 27, 1948 to Fred and Lucy Tate. He was the first born of four children. Two brothers, John and Junior(Fred) and a sister, Bessy. Although Jim grew up very poor, he had a strong work ethic and developed a knack at working with his hands. He worked forty-seven years as a drywall finisher. He loved working on cars and building things from wood. He really enjoyed building model cars, as well. Jim was also raised with a strong faith and trusted in God and the Lord Jesus Christ as his Savior.
He met Della Botts when he was 17 years old and one year later, married her in June of 1966. They had five children together: James Jr, David , Joyce (Laibe), Matt, and Daniel. He has six grandchildren.
He worked hard, trusted in God, and led a simple life. His memory will be cherished and his presence will be greatly missed.
