JAMES “JIM” EDWARD BECKETT
Passed in peace, Wednesday, January 12, 2022, at the age of 76.
Born March 11, 1945, in Nashville, Tennessee, the son of
Robert Bigham and Flora (Nance) Willis.
Jim graduation Miles Senior High School, Class of 1962.
Following graduation, he served in the U.S. Navy
during The Vietnam War and served his country for four years.
He was petty officer and specialized in supply chain logistics and was
active with Navy’s Basketball team.
Following his service, he married his childhood sweetheart,
Janet Warford, and they settled in South Bend, IN.
They celebrated 53 years of marriage in July.
Jim worked as a bus driver with Greyhound Bus System.
Jim was preceded in death by his father, sister Bernice Milligan,
Mother and great granddaughter Sarah Beckett.
He will be remembered for his teasing personality, serious disposition,
unwavering love and protection of those he cherished most.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 52 years
and friend of 70 years, Janet Beckett; children, Drucella Beckett,
Metoyer Clardy (Timmie), Letitia Haywood (Rod),
James E. Beckett Jr., Tonya Watson (David) and Tyran Beckett;
his 22 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren
and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.
Jim was a devoted husband, and father.
He was a veracious reader, true intellect, problem-solver
and self-taught information technologist.
He will be deeply missed by his friends, family and all who knew him.
Friends and Family are invited to celebrate Jim’s life at a memorial service from 11:00a-1:00p on Friday, January 21, 2022, at Indiana Funeral Care located at 8151 Allisonville Road, Indianapolis. If unable to attend in person, please
