JAMES E. SHIREY, (78) of Indianapolis, passed on May 24th, 2020. He was born in Lansing, Michigan on December 24th, 1941 to Donald and Lois Webb Shirey.
Upon graduating from Williamston High School, Williamston, Michigan, in 1960, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served his country until 1965, at which time he attended Northern Technical School of Business in Minneapolis, Minnesota, graduating with Applied Sciences in Court Reporting in 1967.
As freelance court reporter and owner of Shirey Reporting Services, Inc., Jim provided court reporting services to the legal community, retiring in 2013 after 46 years.
Jim was an active member of Carmel United Methodist Church where he served the Lord in many different capacities for over 50 years. He held various leadership positions throughout these years and served as Minister of Visitation following his retirement.
He was preceded in death by infant daughter, Kathleen Grace and wives, Lois E. Shirey and Patricia L. (Thompson) Shirey. Survived by daughter Kelley J. Cann, Plano, Texas; Daniel J. (Andrea) Shirey, Hoover, Alabama; Leslie A. (Martin) Wessler, Indianapolis, Indiana; and Paula M. (Wade) Coggeshall, Indianapolis, Indiana. Also surviving, brother Robert D. Shirey of Marshall, Michigan. Nine grandchildren: Dakota, Justus, and Emma Cann; Sarah, Katie, and Emily Shirey; Matthew and Bradley Wessler; Thea Coggeshall.
A service will be held at Carmel United Methodist Church on Friday, July 31, 2020 at 2:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Carmel United Methodist Church or favorite charity are preferred.
