Jaelyn Cortez Shurts, affectionately known as “Jae or J- Bone” by his family and friends was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, on November 13, 1999. He passed away on April 16, 2024 at the young age of 24.
Jae attended Warren Township schools and graduated with his high school diploma from Warren Central High School. He played soccer, basketball, football and ran cross country. Jaelyn was always so good and loving with animals. He had multiple dogs growing up. He loved playing video games and watching classic scary movies. One of his favorites was "Menace to Society". You could catch him outside having BB gun wars with his father and cousins, playing zombies, or playing army guys while growing up. Jaelyn was a hard worker and an important part of the team at Brallis Logistics until he passed.
Jae loved riding around in his El Camino car, listening to music, riding bikes, shooting pool with his dad, bowling, cracking jokes, doing pranks to make everyone laugh, doing videos with his friends and family, and he especially loved spending time with his son Caine. He loved old school music from oldies & 90’s hip hop classics, to Don Toliver & Youngboy. You could catch him on his beach cruiser bike with Caine or his all blue low rider baby boy bike. His style and personality were so unique from how he wore his hair to his oversized pants & flannels. Jae was one of a kind and unapologetically him.
Jaelyn is survived by his mother Marcita Hughes, father Cory Shurts, his siblings Chanté Hughes, Shyheim White & Aahleina Shurts, his son Caine Shurts, paternal grandparents John & Denise Shurts, maternal grandfather Timothy Miller (Theresa), and a host of aunties, uncles and cousins.
He is preceded in death by brother DeShawn White, his grandmother Debra Hughes & his uncle Timothy Hughes.
