Hugh Martin McAweeney, Jr., 73, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away on February 28, 2024, at his home in Indianapolis, IN. He was born on July 27, 1950, in Woburn, MA, to Hugh Martin McAweeney, Sr. and Delia Helen (Flaherty) McAweeney. After completing his Master’s at University of Massachusetts – Lowell, Hugh served his country in the United States Air Force, where he worked for much of his life in administration until the time of his retirement. During this time, Hugh met and married his wife, Carole (Kendall) McAweeney on June 25th, 1988. Together they spent over 35 wonderful years by each other’s sides, where they enjoyed many adventures especially in Alaska and Colorado.
Hugh also had many joys in life which included outdoor adventures and long walks with his wife; reading; working on his computer; listening to political talk shows; visiting with close friends; and spending time with his honorary Goddaughters.
Hugh is survived by his wife, Carole McAweeney; 1st Cousin Patricia Bator and her sons Scott and Allen Sousa and their respective families; brother-in-law James M. Kendall and his wife Lee Kendall. He was preceded in death by his parents Hugh Martin McAweeney, Sr. and Delia Helen (Flaherty) McAweeney; and his brother Thomas Martin McAweeney.
A funeral mass will be held for Hugh on Friday, March 8th, 2024, at 11 A.M. at Saint Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 4217 Central Ave, Indianapolis, IN 46205. Friends and family are welcome to gather from 10 A.M. until the time of service at the church.
A committal service with military honors will be held on Monday, March 11th, 2024, 11 A.M. at Marion National Cemetery in Marion, IN.
