Herbert Colvin Mills

May 13, 1949 — January 10, 2022

Herbert Colvin Mills went to be with his Lord and friend January 10, 2022 surrounded by loved ones in Fishers, Indiana after a well fought fight against an aggressive cancer.

Herbert, lovingly know as Herb and Herbie, was born in Kalamazoo, MI to Herbert and Nancy Mills. One of 7, he had a memorable childhood full of trips and great stories he shared over the years.

Herbert met his wife, Belva at Springhill camp in northern Michigan. They were married after a short 6 month courtship and enjoyed 45 years together. They have 4 children, April (Michael) Tharpe, Laura (Andrew) Clarke, Melissa (Jacob) Moore, and Aaron (Emily) Mills. They are also blessed with 6 grandkids and 3 grand pups.
Summertime while he was raising his family was full of trips camping all over Indiana, Colorado, Nebraska and Michigan. Making memories with his family was one of Herb’s favorite things to do.

Herb enjoyed his work as Director of the two children homes he led for 20 years. Later in life he switched to real estate, bus driving and maintenance.

Herb was not one to sit still. So when retirement came he started volunteering as a red coat at the local hospital and also at the Mennonite thrift store. Him and his wife also started cruising with yearly trips on a Norwegian cruise ship. When he wasn’t busy with those things you could find him with his dog or a puzzle or both. If you were around during football season you would be sure to hear him cheering on the Michigan Wolverines.

Service to be held in Goshen, Indiana on January 22, 2022 at Goshen Christian Church with visitation from 10:00-12:00 with service at 12:00. Memorials may be made in his honor to the Elkhart Humane Society.
