Harriett Elizabeth Williams was one of six children born on April 15, 1921 in Farrell, Pennsylvania to (the late) James Ulysses Dyson and (the late) Ruth Bell Dyson passed away peacefully with her family by her side on October 13, 2021 at the age of 100.
As a child, Elizabeth, Liz as she preferred being called, was raised in a Christian home and attended Bethel A.M.E. church of Jeffersonville, Indiana and became one of the churches most dedicated members. Elizabeth graduated from Taylor High School in Jeffersonville, Indiana and did not pursue any further education. She dedicated her life to the service of God, family, and the good of mankind.
While worshipping at Bethel, Elizabeth served the church in many different capacities. She served as the church organist, a dedicated member of the Missionary Society and participated in many of the church activities. She devoted her life to family and church based on teachings from her father James U. Dyson. He always stressed “Give to the world the best that you have and the best will come back to you”. She repeated this to her family and friends whenever the opportunity presented itself.
Elizabeth ended her working years when she retired from Advertog manufacturing Corporation.
She remained a faithful and dedicated member of Bethel church and the Jeffersonville community until she relocated to Indianapolis, Indiana to live with her daughter Sharon due to her declining health.
Elizabeth was also a former member of the Eastern Star Jericho Chapter #7, enjoyed gardening, scrapbooking, and most importantly spending time with her family.
Elizabeth will be greeted at Heaven’s gates by her father James U. Dyson, mother Ruth Bell Dyson, Stepmother Mildred Dyson, daughter Barbara Scott and her husband John G. Scott, her daughter Sharon Jordan, her brothers James E. Dyson and Charles E. Dyson, her sisters Ruth Roberts (husband Arthur Roberts) and Ellen Gales.
She will be lovingly remembered by her sister Clara Smith, her son-in-law Albert Jordan, grandchildren Marc (Marla) Scott, Lisa Scott, John Michael Scott, Ayrica Jordan, and Allyson Jordan. Eleven great grandchildren, eleven great-great grandchildren as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
We thank God for the time we were given to enjoy the life and legacy of Harriett Elizabeth Williams.
Amen!
