Gulab Shreepad Wagle passed away on Saturday February 19th, 2022. She was born May 7, 1936, in Bhadwan, Maharashtra, India to Vaman and Laxmi Deshpande. She grew up in the small village with her four older sisters, Shakuntla, Premala, Suman, Mohini and younger brother Narayan. After her mother passed away when she was just two years old, her maternal aunt helped her father raise her and her siblings. After her aunt passed away when Gulab was around eight years old, Gulab’s father raised the children on his own until her early teens when he passed away.
Gulab studied at King Edward Memorial Medical College in Mumbai, India where she received her degree in nursing. After obtaining her degree, she worked in their maternity ward for six months before starting work at Sion Hospital.
Gulab was introduced to Shreepad by her cousin brother who was Shreepad’s good friend. She and Shree were married on August 31, 1962 in Mumbai and enjoyed nearly 60 years of marriage. After raising her family full-time until 1976, she returned to work as a nurse's aid and worked her way up to the position of certified medical assistant during her 40 years at Hooverwood nursing home.
Her children and their spouses, Kiran, Jyoti (Matt) Mottier and Ram (Jen), and grandchildren, Rebecca, Braden, Abigail, Saras and Sita, were a great joy to her.
Gulab's favorite activities were cooking, sewing, and knitting. She enjoyed traveling and was blessed to travel to many places around the world with Shree during his sabbatical years. After retiring, they started visiting India every year during the winter months. Gulab was kind, loving, and selfless, constantly looking after and caring for those around her. She touched countless lives with her welcoming heart. She will be greatly missed by all who loved her.
