Glenn Anthony Sargent, also known as “Tony” to his family and friends, was born December 29, 1955 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Fredrick Sargent and Rowena (Sargent) Gay. Tony attended School #64 where he participated in various activities including school plays, basketball and track; and he played the trumpet and clarinet in the school band. Tony graduated from Emmerich Manual High School, where he was a member of the cross-county team, League of Honor and Junior Achievement.
Tony was baptized at Greater St. James Baptist church. He later became a member of New Garfield Missionary Baptist Church, where he attended Sunday school, sang in the choir and performed in plays. On August 11, 1984, Tony and Elizabeth Etter were married.
Tony retired from Ford Motor Company in 2020, but his true joy came from spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed bowling and playing horseshoe where he won several trophies. He also loved traveling, which began with visits to New York City and Washington DC. The last state he visited was Alaska over the summer of 2024 with his sister Dee Dee. With that visit, Tony was able to achieve his goal of traveling to all fifty states.
Tony was a dedicated father to his son, Deon Lamont Sargent, whom he shared with Linda Vancleave. He was also a devoted son, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather and uncle. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Tony departed this life on December 8, 2024, at the age of sixty-eight.
Tony was preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth Sargent, his parents Fredrick Sargent, Rowena & Willie Gay, his grandmother Bertha Strader and his brother Larry Radford. Tony leaves to cherish his memories his son Deon Lamont Sargent; granddaughters Dyonna Sargent, Deniece Sargent and Destiny Sargent; two great-grandchildren; sister Cordelia Jones-Hill (Dee Dee); special friend Darlene Knight and other relatives and loved ones.
