Glenn Rogers Johnson

Glenn Rogers Johnson, age 85, of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away at 7:50 p.m. on Monday, December 30, 2019 at St. Francis Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born to the late John Robert and Lillibelle (Rogers) Johnson on August 10, 1934 in Beloit, Wisconsin

Glenn graduated from Valparaiso University in 1956 with a major in both Psychology and Sociology and a minor in religion. He began his career in August of 1956 in the Marion County Juvenile Court working as a juvenile probation officer. Shortly thereafter he joined the Indiana National Guard honorably serving for six years in the Administration Company of the 38th Infantry Division. Glenn received his MA degree in Social Work in May of 1959 from the Indiana University Division of Social Service. Following graduation he began his career in social work. Glenn worked for the Veterans Administration Regional Office Out Patient-Metal Hygiene Clinic from 1960 until he accepted the position of Director at Lutherwood Residential Treatment Center for mental/emotionally challenged youth on April 11, 1966. During his 30 years of work in residential care, Glenn had many accomplishments and played a significant role in improving the quality of care for youth requiring out-of-home placement. A highlight of his career came on October 8, 1991 when Governor Evan Bayh recognized his 25 years of dedicated service to the children of Indiana by proclaiming him to be a "Sagamore of the Wabash".

Over the years Glenn served on numerous boards and committees. The most notable: board member and president for Indiana Association of Residential Child Care (IARCCA), treasurer for Child Welfare League of America (CWLA), a board member and board president for Damar Homes Inc., and a board member and vice president for Community Care Alliance.

He was united in marriage on April 12, 1958 to Patricia Ann "Pat" Miller at Christ Lutheran Church in Indianapolis, Indiana. This union was blessed with three loving boys. Glenn enjoyed camping and boating. He loved spending time with his family and will be deeply missed.

Glenn is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Patricia Ann "Pat" Johnson and his children, Darrell Johnson, Eric Johnson (Tracy), and Kurt Johnson (Marcia). Also, he is survived by 6 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 9, 2020 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 8540 East 16th Street, Indianapolis, Indiana 46219. The Funeral Service will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Ken Wagener officiating. Arrangements entrusted to Indiana Funeral Care - Greenwood Chapel.
