Gladys Truex Oerter passed away on July 29, 2021, at the age of 101 years 6 months old.
Gladys was born on February 2, 1920 in the Bronx, NY, and grew up there. During World War 2, she worked for the telephone company in Washington DC. After the war she married Charles F. Oerter and moved to Long Island to raise her 3 children. After her children grew up, she went to work in the clothing department at Arnold Constable and the complaint department at B Altman’s. She retired in 1979 and moved to Wilmington, NC and enjoyed gardening and entertaining friends. Widowed in 1984, Gladys remained in Wilmington until 2020. She then moved to Indianapolis, IN.
She is survived by her 3 children: Brian Oerter (Sandy), Charles Oerter (Judy) and Suzanne Zimmerman (Steve) . She had 5 grandchildren and 6 great grand daughters . She loved to travel, cruise, was an avid book reader, and will be remembered for her spunky attitude.
