Geraldine "Geri" Carothers Forbey, 76, of Indianapolis celebrated her first Heavenly Birthday on Saturday, February 15th, 2020. She quietly left us as we slept.
Gigi was loved by so many and will be deeply missed. We, her children, are very blessed to have called her Mom. She was our rock, our center, and our safe place. Our memories of her will stay with us until the sweet day we are reunited. Until that day, we will carry on, remembering all she instilled in us knowing she is never far.
Gigi inherited her love of cooking and baking from her parents but never quite mastered the art of cooking for less than an army of people. Her meals are legendary and her culinary skills were, fortunately, passed on to her children, and a few select grandchildren. Her ability to trash a kitchen is second to none,
Mom had a knack for gardening with the ability to grow a tomato plant, even in the desert. She loved four letters words as much as she did flowers. Her love of birds was proven by the number of birdhouses and feeders that could be found in her yard. Gigi could identify any bird, "as a duck" many to be named Becky and Barbara.
Quilting became a passion of hers after retirement, and like anything she loved, she poured her heart and soul into every quilt. They're now our treasures.
She was a great dancer, and loved to dance, even if it was by herself. You can ask any of the neighborhood kids on Bradbury. She danced like no one was watching but always made sure someone was.
Her favorite time of year was Christmas and she would spend hours searching for that perfect tree. Gigi loved everything about Christmas and her house was always filled with some of the most delicious smells. Every person who came for dinner knew a stretchy waistband was required. She loved us with everything she had and she put every ounce of that love into every dish she made.
If you happened to be lucky enough to stay over at the Carothers house on a Friday night; on Saturday morning, after breakfast, you were probably wiping down woodwork, possibly getting thrown into family pictures, told to rub her feet or maybe even get grounded with the rest of us.
Gigi was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Anna Cooper, her first Grandchild, Amy Hendrix, and sister Helen Tyree. She is survived by her husband of nine years, Clarence Forbey, children Ruth (Des) Carothers, Woody (Julie) Carothers, Kelly (Randy) Strong, Dawn (Jackie) Butler and Joe (Dodie) Carothers. Her beautiful Grandchildren, Sam, Nikki, David, Kristal and Mark, Amber, Josh, Lindsey and Austin, Ben, Kristi and Megan, Eric and Danielle, Haley and Alex, Joshua and Breana, Mathew, Paige and Justin, Emily and Shawn, William, Peri, Ava, Francesca, Anna, Maria, Josie and Reggie. Her Great-Grandchildren-Shawn, Luke, Charlie, Junior, Nevaeh, Conner, Kaleigh, Cora, Kali, Addison, Brayden, Liam, Kamryn, Alana, Cooper, Braelynn, Charlie, Bentley, Shawn Jr., Christopher, Mattie, Levi and Brooklyn.
Mom left us much too soon and her absence will be felt every single day by everyone that loved her.
