George Kapassakis, 74, of Camby, Indiana passed away Thursday, November 17, 2022.
He was born on Friday, December 12, 1947, in Mathes,Crete, Greece to the late Andrea and Sophia (Apostolakis) Kapassakis. When George was six his family immigrated to the United States by ship to Ellis Island. He grew up in New York and then entered into the U.S. Army. He was stationed in the Panama Canal for a time and was honorably discharged at Ft. Benjamin Harrison in Indianapolis, Indiana and loved it so much he decided to stay. When George was in Junior High, he once was in a competition in gym class to see who could do the most sit ups and won after doing 700 of them. He loved Karate and took lessons for 2 years and Judo and gymnastics. George was once in Time Magazine for sculpturing of which he was proud. He also spoke three languages, English, Greek and Spanish. He was a member of Westside Apostolic Pentecostal Church for 44 years. He ministered the gospel to the elderly for many years along with everyone he met.
George leaves behind his wife of 44 years, Rebecca A. (Brooks) Kapassakis; children, Brenda Boyer (John), Bill Edwards (Karen), Beth Luoma (Steve), Tina Edwards, Rachel Fischer (Josh); 15 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; brothers, Gus Kapassakis, Peter Kapassakis; sisters, Helen Louris, Argie Maragoudakis; and many nephews, nieces, and cousins residing in Greece, Canada, and United States.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Andrea, and Sophia; siblings, Spiro Kapassakis, Stanley Kapassakis, Katina Spetsieris, Paul Kapassakis, and Stella Kapassakis.
George was a cheerful giver and lived his life trying to be a blessing to others. He was full of love and laughter for his family and friends and will be greatly missed. He leaves a legacy in the lives of many of his family members from his love for the Lord, karate, food, humor and especially to his grandson Demetrius, his mannerisms.
Visitation is Tuesday, November 29, 2022, 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Westside Apostolic Pentecostal Church, Indianapolis.
Funeral service will be Wednesday, November 30, 2022, at 11:00 AM.
