It is with a heavy heart and a smirk that we announce the passing of George Michael "Mike" Green of Indianapolis, IN, formerly of Winslow, IN, aged 69, on January 1, 2025. Born in the bustling metropolis of Vincennes, Indiana, to Laddie and Betty Green, Mike was the embodiment of a true sports fanatic. He spent countless hours passionately debating whether his beloved IU Hoosiers were going to make it to the Final Four or if his Colts were play-off bound.
As a father, Mike was a pro at instilling wisdom in his son Zackery, often dispensing life lessons that were sometimes as confusing as they were insightful. As a grandfather, he was a master at the art of spoiling and teaching his grandkids Courtney, Zander, and Olivia the true meaning of "just one more cookie." As an uncle, Mike was known for teaching his nieces and nephews tremendous lessons in abiding the law and safety, by letting them drive when they were around 13 years old and pushing them into countless bodies of water.
After a long and illustrious career in the coal mines, Mike took his talents to the JW Marriott in Indianapolis, where he proudly served as a concierge. He enjoyed meeting folks from around the globe, often regaling them with Indianapolis history and interesting facts that he often made up on the spot. Mike loved to travel, and he had a knack for finding the best places for both food and naps, a skill he honed over many vacations.
Mike is survived by his son Zackery, his three grandkids, Courtney, Zander, and Olivia, who will forever remember him as the fun one, his two sisters Sally Pratt and Julie Green, and one brother Mark (Rhonda) Green, several nieces and nephews, and his friends who are still trying to figure out if he was ever serious about anything. He leaves behind a legacy of laughter, questionable advice, and the kind of hugs that could only be described as "bear-like."
He was proceeded in death by his parents, Laddie and Betty Green, sister Sandy McElvain, brother, Patrick Green, nephews Dan McElvain, and Charles "Chuck" McElvain.
Mike's wishes were to be cremated, and a private celebration of Mike's life will be held at a later date.
Rest in peace, Mike. May your travels be endless and your feet always warm.
