George Allen David, age 70, of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away at 4:20 a.m. on Wednesday, November 13, 2019 at his home with his wife by his side. He was born to the late George Allen David and Mable (Norton) Walters on May 18, 1949 in Sullivan, Indiana. George was raised by his step-father, Clarence Flea Walters.
George was a graduate of Sullivan High School, class 1967. He was united in marriage to Mary L. Stearley in January of 1968 at his mother’s house in Sullivan, Indiana. He was inducted into the United States Army on April 8, 1969 and transferred to the United States Army Reserves on March 7, 1971. George was honorably discharged on April 7, 1975. His only son, Robert was born while he was in Vietnam and was six months old when he returned home. George retired from Raytheon after 32 years working as a machinist and parts inspector. He was an outdoors man and enjoyed hunting and camping. George loved riding anything with two wheels; motorcycles, dirt bikes, and bicycling the monon trail with his wife. He won awards and trophies for his favorite hobby demolition derby.
He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Mary L. (Stearley) David of Indianapolis, Indiana; his loving children, Robert Allen David of Indianapolis, Indiana, Tracey McCauley and her husband Caleb of Indianapolis, Indiana, Julie Ann (Butler) Hayes and her husband Jeremy of Indianapolis, Indiana and Natalie Joann David of Indianapolis, Indiana; as well as 13 grandchildren, Andrea Lynn David who George and his wife raised and Zachary David McCauley who is currently serving this country in the United States Army and 6 great grandchildren. George is preceded in death by his father, George David, his mother and stepfather Mable and Clarence Walters, his brother James David and his great granddaughter Victoria Elizabeth Butler.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Monday, November 18, 2019 at Indiana Funeral Care - Greenwood Chapel, 2433 East Main Street, Greenwood, Indiana 46143. The Funeral Service will follow at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Tom Pearison officiating. Burial will take place in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, 734 North Morgantown Road, Greenwood, Indiana 46142.
