George Albert Hauk, 81, of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away
Sunday, July 18, 2021.
George was born Wednesday, December 6, 1939 to the late Ralph Edgar and Edith Mae (Thompson) Hauk in Indianapolis, Indiana.
He is preceded in death by his parents Ralph Edgar and Edith Mae Hauk; brothers, Ralph Hauk (Junior), Jack Hauk, Robert Hauk, and Tom Hauk; sisters, Barbara Jean Matthews and Charlene Fallowell; grandson John Nicholas Dossey.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Anne Ficklin Hauk; daughters, Dolores Johnson (Roger), Debra Jackson, Dawn Spears (Doug) and Diana Renollet (Brian); grandchildren, Daniel Johnson, Michael Spears, JoAnna Aviles, Matthew Johnson, Justin Dossey, Rachael Violette, Travis Johnson, Alison Boesch, JuliAnna Dossey, Robert Johnson, David Stonerock and Jordan Dossey; 15 great-grandchildren; and brothers Don Hauk and Mike Hauk.
George served in the United States Army and was an MP. He was honorably discharged after an illness.
George married Joyce Anne Ficklin in November 1959. They shared a great love and devotion to one another for 61 years. They enjoyed traveling, they took many adventurous road trips. Together they raised their four daughters that he cherished. He was a devoted husband and father that worked hard to provide for his family. He loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren with all his heart. He loved to attend the kids sporting, music and scouting events. George took great pride in his family.
He worked in the truck industry and was a city truck driver. He retired from ABF Freight in April 1997. He was a member of the Teamsters Union Local 135.
He was a member of the Independent Beech Grove Independent Nazarene Church. His faith was strong. As his illness progressed, he could always be found with his tablet in hand when his church services were on. He especially loved to listen to the Wednesday evening children’s choir.
In his spare-time he loved to play golf. He was good at it. He was happy with a club in his hands whether on an eighteen-hole course, miniature golf course or on the driving range.
George showed great strength and determination in his seven-year cancer battle. He was an example of courage to everyone that knew him. He was a fighter to the very end.
