Gathiel “Gay” Campanello, 85, of McCordsville, Indiana, and formerly of Elkhart, Indiana, passed away on Friday, November 6, 2020 in the comfort of her home. She was born on November 20, 1934 to Roy and Gaynell (Salmon) Wallin.
Gay worked for the Indiana Toll Road for 32 years and retired in 2003. She was married to Steve Campanello. She is survived by her children Thomas (Jan) Witman and Deborah (Gary) York; grandchildren, Jennifer (Sean) Turley, Thomas (Alisha Blankenship) Witman, Kevin (Amy) York, Jason (Emilia Merchen) York, Stephanie (Chris) Nelson; step grandson, Mark Pierce; great-grandchildren, Cole Turley, Cash Turley, Juliet York, Leo York, Theodore York, Rosalie York, Shane Nelson and Claire Nelson.
In addition to her parents, Gay was preceded in death by her 5 sisters and 4 brothers, and her husband Steve.
Gay was passionate about watching professional tennis, the Chicago Cubs, and Rush Limbaugh. She enjoyed attending her grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s sporting events. She will be greatly missed by those that knew her.
A memorial will be hosted at Indiana Funeral Care located at 8151 Allisonville Road, Indianapolis, Indiana 46250 on Saturday, November 14th from 9:30am-11:30am. The family will be hosting a Celebration of Life after the memorial at The Grill in McCordsville from 12:00pm-2:30pm. Gay will be laid to rest at Rice Cemetary in Elkhart at a later date.
