Gary G. Reed, 81, father, brother, husband and good friend of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away on Tuesday, March 2, 2021 at his home in Indianapolis.
He was born on Thursday, February 22, 1940 in Indianapolis, Indiana.
His parents were Lloyd and Udeen Deer, and he had a sister, Sherry Cook and brother, Larry Pruitt. He was place at Indiana Baptist Home Orphanage at about 10 years of age and was adopted by Hulman and Mary Reed when he was 13. There he had a younger brother, Sam Reed.
He graduated from Southport High School and joined the US Navy for 6 years where he served on the USS Topeka. He was passionate about his country and about the military. He owned his own gun range in Beech Grove prior to moving out to Las Vegas and working in security. He always maintained his Midwest roots and was happy to come back to Indy last spring to be near his family. He loved classical music, military history, and genealogy. He loved quietly and was loyal to his family.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Gary is survived by his daughter, Diana Reed; brother, Sam Reed; half-sisters, Terri Bruder, Shirley Esposito, Violet Lynn Morgan, and their families; nieces, Jessica McGraw, Kay Swinehart; nephews, Hanson Reed, Carl Cook, Charles Cook, Jack Perry, Ken Perry and their families, great nieces Lilly McGraw and Violet McGraw.
Evelyn E. (Wyatt) Reed, 72, mother, wife, sister and good friend of Las Vegas, Nevada, previously of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away on Sunday, February 24, 2019 at her home in Las Vegas.
She was born on Friday, March 26, 1946 to Jacob Wyatt and Ethel May Scheffer in Indianapolis, Indiana. She graduated from Manuel High School where she loved to play tennis and drink iced tea.
When it was time to retire, Gary and Evelyn moved to Las Vegas where she adored the abundant sunshine and many things to do. Evelyn’s favorite hobbies were shopping with her daughter Diana or go to the casino and play slots which she often won at. She worked and owned her own janitorial company with her cousin Pam Nelson before moving to Vegas and working as surveillance in the casinos. She was very good at catching the bad guys. She was very loyal to family and had a huge heart that not everyone got to see. She helped so many people over the years and was the hardest worker I’ve ever known.
She is preceded in death by her seven brothers, Howard Barnes, Ronald Barnes, Donald Barnes, Everett Barnes, Craig Wyatt, Vip Hopson and Timothy Hopson.
Evelyn is survived by her daughter, Diana Reed; cousins, Pam Nelson, Chris Proctor, and their families; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Memorial service for Gary and Evelyn will be on Saturday, March 27, 2021 at 6913 Millbrook Circle, Indianapolis, Indiana 46237.
