Fred Stephen "Steve" Lawrenz, age 72, of Greenwood, Indiana passed away on Monday, November 4, 2019 at Roudebush VA Medical Center in Indianapolis, Indiana after an ongoing battle of Parkinson's and Dementia. He was born to the late Fred William and Fern Virginia (Ratliff) Lawrenz on October 24, 1947 in Indianapolis, Indiana.
He graduated from Emmerich Manual High School, class of 1965. Steve married Linda Throckmorton right out of high school at Emmaus Lutheran Church in Indianapolis on December 22, 1966. He was drafted into the United States Army on August 30, 1967 and was deployed to Vietnam and eventually Korea. Steve helped with building the Howitzer and was honorably discharged on August 29, 1969 at Fort Sill in Oklahoma.
He worked at Eli Lilly for 41 years in Quality Control retiring in 2010. Steve also worked at Sears part time. He owned his own grass cutting business which he and Linda as well as their two children operated together.
He didn’t really have a hobby. Linda was his hobby, they were always together “inseparable”. Steve always said, his life was about his wife Linda and family. He and Linda traveled for Eli Lilly to Spain, Europe, Paris, London, Ireland and Puerto Rico. Steve and Linda traveled to Hawaii 31 times and sometimes as a family, it was his favorite place. Steve was the kindest, sweetest, most loving, family oriented and honest person! He had an awesome smile and it was contagious. He loved everyone. Steve will be truly missed! We will see you again one day. Keep smiling and we love you!
Steve is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Linda Lawrenz; his loving son, Stephen “Steve” Lawrenz and his wife Kim; his loving daughter, Angela “Angie” Bayliff; his grandchildren, Cody Bayliff, Courtney Bayliff and Seth Lawrenz; his brother, Jeff Lawrenz and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his uncle Kenny Wise, aunt Martha Wise and grandmother Clara Roembke.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m on Thursday, November 21, 2019 at Indiana Funeral Care - Greenwood Chapel, 2433 East Main Street, Greenwood, Indiana 46143. The Memorial Service will begin at 12:00 p.m. with Pastor Richard Throckmorton officiating. Burial will follow in Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1415 North Gate Road, Madison, Indiana 47250.
