Esther Lydia Kwiatkowski, 85 Former Muncie resident, Esther Kwiatkowski, 85, passed away on October 4, 2019.
Esther was born November 9, 1933 in Poland to Henry and Lydia Kalis. Her father, mother, sister Grace and brother John, all preceded Esther in death.
For her three daughters, Esther was a progressive example of a woman’s right to chart her own path. She was strong and tenacious. Born during the depression, Esther began working in a grocery store when she was 12 years old. As an adult, she helped to support her husband, Jerome, by working at the phone company as he completed his undergraduate degree in electrical engineering. With children at home, she worked as a realtor from 1980 to 1986. She transitioned into a career as an LPN after graduating first in her nursing class, in 1987. Esther cared deeply about her patients and worked tirelessly even into her 70’s.
Esther loved animals and took it upon herself to save many creatures including her first pet, a robin named Charlie. She enjoyed music, especially the violin, which she played. In addition to music, she pursued other creative endeavors such as pottery and wood burning. Esther would even create artistic opportunities when making birthday cakes and costumes for her daughters and grandchildren.
She is survived by her three daughters Dr. Linda Kwiatkowski of Noblesville, Susan Featherstone of Fishers, Mikale Kwiatkowski of Charlotte NC, and her grandchildren, Drake and Ella Featherstone, both of Fishers.
