Essie McCollum

Essie Hutto McCollum of Mooresville, IN died peacefully March 22, 2024 in her home at the age of 88. Essie was born to the late Juber Bennie Hutto and Ruth Phillips Hutto in Norway, SC.

Essie was a member of Willow Swamp Baptist Church in Norway, SC.

Essie's former husband and friend is David McCollum of Orangeburg, SC. They shared a special bond and remained close friends until the end of her days.

Essie retired from Orangeburg Regional Hospital as the business office manager. She went on to work at Orangeburg Surgical Associates and The Mabry Center for Cancer Care.

Essie was also a Pink Lady volunteer which brought her much joy.

Essie was a devoted mother and grandmother who loved watching birds from her window. Essie would never slow down, even in her later years. Essie never missed an opportunity to work in the yard or start a house project even if it meant climbing that ladder. She will be remembered for her banana pudding and her love of gardening.

Her memory will be cherished by her daughters Debbie (Dallas) Lovelace, Lynne (Darrell) Beltz grandchildren Darrell L. Beltz Jr., Lee Young and Rebecca Lovelace.

Great grandchildren Makenzie Rae Beltz, Kaden Orion Searcy, Elliot Vivian Young and Amos David Young.

She was preceded in death by sons Ronald Wayne McCollum and Kenneth David McCollum, sisters Frances (Gerald) Joiner, Carolyn (Frederic) Mills and brother Mickey L. Hutto.
