Errol Dodson

Errol Wade Dodson, a beloved husband, father, son, brother, and friend, passed away unexpectedly on April 4, 2025, at the age of 55. He was born on December 31, 1969, in Martinsville, Indiana, and was a proud 1988 graduate of Brown County High School.

Errol dedicated his career to the industrial sector, beginning as a welder and ultimately becoming an accomplished Industrial Maintenance Mechanic. He brought unwavering commitment and a strong work ethic to every role he held throughout his life.

Beyond his professional pursuits, Errol was deeply passionate about fitness and martial arts. An avid practitioner of jiu-jitsu, he became an integral part of the early days of the UFC, training alongside notable names such as Mark Kerr and Oleg Taktarov. His dedication to mixed martial arts earned him the honor of being ranked number one in his weight class during the 1990s. Errol's love for exercise extended well beyond the ring; he enjoyed weightlifting, running, and biking, once cycling nearly 75 miles along the stunning shores of Lake Michigan in a single afternoon. His adventurous spirit also drew him outdoors to hike in nature or cast a line into a pond, savoring simple moments in life. He often remarked, "Why should I watch someone else live their life when I can be living mine?"

Errol shared a beautiful life with his wife and companion, Dana Dodson, with whom he celebrated 34 wonderful years. Together, they created a loving home and shared a passion for travel and music. Errol's legacy will live on through his five children: Jacob, Bailey (Jaden Ogden), Alexis, Kendall (Jericho Laney), and Michaela Dodson; and his granddaughter, Luna Lynn Laney. He was also a devoted pet parent to his furry friend, Athena, who brought him much joy.

Errol is survived by his father, Daniel Dodson; his sister, Esther Gott (Al); sister-in-law, Tammy Dodson; and many loving relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Dodson, and his brother, Mark Dodson Sr.

A viewing will be held on April 14, 2025, at 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Indiana Funeral Care, Greenwood Chapel, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 PM, and a Graveside Service will take place at East Hill Cemetery at 3:00 PM.

As we remember Errol’s kind heart, adventurous spirit, and infectious enthusiasm for life, let us come together to celebrate his legacy and the indelible mark he has left on all who were fortunate enough to know him. Rest in peace, dear Errol. You will be profoundly missed.
