Betty passed away on September 1st peacefully in the presence of family.
Betty was born in Bartholomew County on January 22, 1925, to Hazel and Carmel Settle. She was the oldest of their five children: Robert, Frances, Edward and Sue.
She was one of the few women who served her country during WWII as a Navy Wave storekeeper. After having to endure the slurs thrown at her for serving her country during that time, she commented that the experience made her a “tough old bird”.
After she returned from the war, she met Raymond Henry (Shine) Baute; they were married on December 29, 1950. They had 3 children Shirley (Paul Wenzel), John (Bonnie) and Joe, grandsons Seth (Emily) and Justin (Audrey), and 3 great-grandchildren Leah, Mason and Kai.
She is preceded by death by her parents, brother Edward, her husband and son John.
Indiana Funeral Care (indianafuneralcare.com) is handling her arrangements. The family will hold a private celebration of life at a later date. She will be cremated and buried at a later date in the National Cemetery in Marion, IN per her wish.
In lieu of flowers the family wish any contributions to Compass Park for their compassionate care of her the last year of life. Please send contributions to:
