Edward Allen Harrison

June 26, 1928 — December 16, 2023

Marion

Edward A. Harrison of Lapel went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Dec. 16, 2023. He was born in Noblesville on June 26, 1928, to James L. Harrison Sr and Donna M. (Ridgeway) Harrison. Edward served in the U.S. Marine Corp from Oct. 9, 1950, until he was honorably discharged at Camp Lejeune, NC as a SSG on Oct. 8, 1953. Edward was very proud to be a Marine and told everyone he would be from the age of 8. He was stationed in Korea in 1951 and 1952, as a demolition and ammunitions handler, after completing a course at Ordinance School in Quantico, VA.

Edward was fortunate to be able to go on the Blue Bus Indy Honor Flight to Washington DC in Sept. 2019, with his daughter, Donna, as guardian. Edward retired from Brockway Glass Co (now Owens-Illinois) in Lapel in 1994 after 34 years of service. After retirement he worked in the paint department at the Noblesville Wal-Mart for several years. Edward was proud to have earned his G.E.D. through Anderson Community Schools in 1993 at the age of 65. He was a Past Master Mason with Fellowship #681 Masonic Lodge, a member of American Legion Post #212 in Lapel, member of Toastmasters Club.

He was married to Dilma M. (Simpson) Harrison from Sept. 1979 until her death in Feb. 2007. Edward had attended the First Church of God in Noblesville for decades but in later years he and Dilma attended Ford St United Methodist Church in Lapel until their health declined. He is survived by 2 daughters from a previous marriage, Donna (Jim) Needham of Anderson and Teresa (Mark Willock) Hadley of Westfield and a daughter, Gail (Chris) Whicker of Sheridan, grandchildren Ryan (Nichole) Needham of Greenfield, Stephanie Hadley of Westfield, Stewart (Ashley) Hadley of Peru, Crystal (Marc) Catron of Sheridan, Cody (Melissa) Parks of Sheridan, and many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Edward was raised by a single father during the Depression after his mother passed away leaving his father with 4 children. Even though they weren’t rich Edward would take the money he earned and buy one cheeseburger for himself and one for his dog as he cared very much for animals. He quit school in the 8th grade to go to work to help his family. He liked to repair, remodel, and do all kinds of tasks. He was a very caring and giving person and helped many people in his lifetime. He will be greatly missed by family and friends. He was proceeded in death by his parents, wife, sister Edith Rushton of Lapel, brothers James Harrison Jr. of Noblesville and Curtis Harrison of Madisonville, KY.
