Ronald Keith Bowman went to see his Lord and Savior on January 7, 2021. He was 89 years old. He was a long-time resident of Carmel, IN, where he and his wife of 68 years, Judy, lived for the last 47 years. Ron was born on June 7, 1931 in Bloomington, IN, to John Earl and Leota Fern (Cardwell) Bowman. He was the 2nd of their 4 children. He grew up in Monticello, IN, playing basketball and football and enjoying Indiana Beach. He graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1949 and went on to receive a Bachelor of Science degree from Indiana University in 1958. Ron enlisted in the Air Force in the summer of 1952 and served until 1956. In 1961, Ron received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Indiana University and went on to have a thriving dental practice in Castleton, IN, for many years. He retired from his practice in 1999 but having spent many years in prison ministry, Ron went on to provide dental services to the inmates at Pendleton Correctional Facility for the next 10 years. He was a proud member of the Academy of General Dentistry for many years.
Ron would say one of the greatest decisions of his life was to marry Judith Woerner on December 20, 1952. They went on to live in Kansas, California, Illinois and finally landed in Indianapolis in 1961. Their 68-year union produced 4 children, 18 grandchildren and multiple great grandchildren. His love for Judy was never more evident than in the last 5 years as he nursed her through her dementia.
The best decision Ron ever made was to surrender his life to Jesus in 1952. His faith was solid and sure from that point on. He was a founding member of Faith Missionary Church and has spent the last 29 years as a member of Grace Church in Noblesville, IN. He served in many leadership roles at both churches – including serving as an elder. Ron contributed to and served with many Christian organizations including Youth for Christ and Bill Glass Prison Ministries.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents Earl and Leota Bowman and brothers Austin and Kenny Bowman.
He is survived by his wife Judy, daughter Christine (Ronald) D’Onofrio, son Keith (Brenda) Bowman, daughter Elizabeth (Steve) Polley and daughter Amy (Jeffrey) Christie. 18 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren with 2 more on the way and his sister, Patricia Bowman Edwards.
There will be a private family ceremony on January 13 with a celebration of life to follow sometime in June. The church will be live streaming the service online, please visit https://live.gracechurch.us.
