Doris Ann Busse peacefully reunited with her beloved husband Arnold, in heaven, on March 22, 2024. Born to Walter J. and Doris S. Boerger in Chattanooga, Tennessee on July 3, 1933. Doris grew up in Chattanooga, where she attended elementary and high school. She went on to major in Accounting at Valparaiso University, where she would meet Arnold Busse through a double date with their roommates. Doris graduated in 1956 and began her career at Claunch and Shumaker Law Firm in Chattanooga, going on to work in Admissions and Student Aid at Valparaiso University while Arnold finished his senior year.
Arnold and Doris were wed on August 16, 1957. Their love was one of compassion, honesty, and steadfastness throughout 63 wonderful years of marriage. The couple then moved to Indianapolis and Carmel, where they would raise their family. They set the perfect example of love, faith, and dedication to their 3 children, Alan, Carol and Joan.
Doris held a deep-seated passion for travel, exploration, cultural adventure, and could remember every detail of any trip years after the fact. She had a personal love for the handmade arts, sewing and knitting throughout her life. Doris saw the beauty in everyday life, enjoying a peaceful canoe on the lake and observing birds in the backyard. Always quick with a smile or a hug, she loved her family fiercely and provided an example of devotion to life’s passions.
Those who were lucky to love Doris will fondly remember her friendship, ability to create lifelong memories over lovely meals and devotion to Christ. Doris’ faith was her driver in life, clearly and quietly demonstrated through every loving action. Her presence radiated peace and comfort, and she will be dearly missed.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents, grandson Jackson Hitchcock and husband Arnold. She is survived by her children Alan, Carol, and Joan, 10 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren. Her life and passing is best summarized by the Bible verses selected by Doris for her confirmation in 1 John 2;24-25 (KJV), “Let what you heard from the beginning abide in you. If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, then you too will abide in the Son and in the Father. And this is the promise that he made to us - eternal life”.
