Donald Neal Benefiel, Jr. (73) of Fishers died after a courageous battle with cancer on Monday, September 23rd, 2019. He leaves behind his wife of forty-seven years, Linda. Daughter, Abby. Step-daughter, Vicki. Grandson, Patrick. Enkel, Maximilian. Emotional support cat, Sasha.
Donald (Don or Donnie as his family called him) was born on October 17th, 1945 in Shelbyville, Indiana. He is survived by three sisters, Barbara Staats of Shelbyville, Brooke Snyder of Plainfield and Betsi Cunningham of Jeffersonville. Plus two brothers, Bruce Benefiel of Brownsburg and Robert ‘Todd’ Benefiel of Greenwood.
Don served honorably in the army as an infantryman during the Vietnam War from November 1965 to September 1967. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
Mr. Benefiel worked as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. His entire career of thirty years was at the Nora Branch in Indianapolis, Indiana. He retired in March of 2011.
He loved Colts, Pacers and IU basketball. His favorite musical group was The Eagles and he enjoyed listening to Big Band music. An avid reader of history, his favorite subjects were The Great War, World War II and The Vietnam War.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, September 28th, 2019, from 1-3:30pm at Indiana Funeral Care, 8151 Allisonville Road, Indianapolis, Indiana 46250. (317) 636-6464.
