It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Dillon Curtis Hoefener. Dillon went to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 16, 2025, at the young age of 35.
Dillon was born on April 13, 1989, to parents Dee "Dottie" Carter and Judson Hoefener. He graduated from Shelbyville High School, and attended Ball State University before earning his bachelor's degree from Wesleyan University. Dillon had a brilliant and inquisitive mind, teaching himself programming and coding long before his formal education. He continued to expand his knowledge through numerous certifications and thrived in his current field as a Business Intelligence and Data Analytics Sr Developer for MacAllister Machinery in Indianapolis. His career previously led him to IMMI in Westfield and Viavi in Indianapolis, where, even after moving on, his expertise was so valued that they continued to seek his help as a consultant.
Dillon met the love of his life, Megan (Jones) Hoefener, in 2012. Who he then married on September 1, 2017. Dillon embraced life with a passion. His world revolved around his unwavering faith in God, his wife, their cats, his family, and his work. He loved playing his video games but also had a love for the outdoors- mountain biking, hiking, and exploring new places. Music was his refuge, and he often shared meaningful lyrics with loved ones. He had a love for travel and dreamed of seeing more of the world. His quiet nature was balanced by a sharp sense of humor as he was a beautiful soul, with a giving heart, who loved to make others laugh.
One of Dillon's greatest callings was his commitment and deep passion to helping those struggling with addiction. He dedicated years to sponsorship and speaking at recovery meetings, offering encouragement, wisdom, and support to those in need. He met many friends along the way with his selflessness and compassion changing countless lives.
He is survived by his wife, mother and stepfather Jim Carter; his brother Grant Hoefener; his nephew and best buddy Wyatt; step-brothers Phil (wife Vicki) and Brad (wife Summer) Carter; father in law Douglas Jones and mother in law Mary Jones; Sister in law Stephanie (husband Jeremiah) Johnson; brother in law Douglas (wife Gabriela) Jones; nephews Braedyn and Briesyn Canter; niece Nevaeh Johnson; many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends. He was an outstanding uncle, loving husband, cherished son, and a fierce friend.
Although we may never know the reason why his life was cut short so early, we take comfort in knowing Dillon is at peace and free from the struggles. Dillon's passing leaves an immense void, but his light and love will continue to shine through the memories he created and the lives he touched. When you remember him don't be saddened that he is no longer here with us physically, but take joy in the fact that he left us with so many memories that we can carry with us forever. He would not want us to mourn over the loss of him, but instead celebrate his life and spread joy and laughter in remembrance of him. His work and purpose will live on. We ask for prayers as we navigate this profound loss and hold Dillon's spirit close to our hearts.
A celebration of life will be held for Dillon on March 8, 2025 at Shelbyville Community Church 720 N County Road 325 E Shelbyville, IN 46176.
