Dennis Carl Hollinger, age 66, of McCordsville, Indiana went home to Jesus on Friday, September 17, 2021 surrounded by his family and friends. He was born to Carl and Ruth (Hupp) Hollinger on September 14, 1955. After spending his early years in Detroit and Frankenmuth, Michigan, his family moved to Indianapolis.
He graduated from Warren Central High School where he played football, basketball and continued relationships with his early childhood friends and Teacher until his passing. A big highlight for them was getting together to play cards several times a year on Friday nights. He was an outstanding student not only at Trinity Lutheran School in Indianapolis, Warren Central High School, but also at IUPUI (Indiana University, Purdue University at Indianapolis) where he was initiated into the Phi Eta Sigma, Freshman Honor Society and earned his Associates Degree in Electronics and Engineering.
Dennis was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was married to Rhonda (Gunter Keene) Hollinger, who survives him as well as the mother of his children, Julianne (Jay) Miller. Dennis is also survived by his children, Matthew (Sarah) Hollinger, Rachael (Joshua) Owens, stepchildren, Kelly Keene and Aaron (Sara Burke) Keene. Additional survivors include brothers James (Victoria) Hollinger and Mark (Mary) Hollinger, sister-in-laws Treva (Norm) Gunter Mills and Linda (Kirk) Thomas, as well as nieces, Sarah (Andrew Hime) Hollinger, Kristen (Nate) Oncken, and Sheilie (Jim) Novero, Lauren Kivett, Kaitlin Kivett, Allysa Wilson. Nephews, Chad Sullivan, Brian Freche, and 1LT Danny Kivett. Dennis leaves behind many, many family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Ruth Hollinger, mother and father- in -law, Frances and Leo Kitchen and niece, Kristyn Freche.
Dennis was the best "Punkin" EVER to his grandchildren, Gavin and Darcy Owens, Aria, Kieran, and Violet Hollinger, and Aiden Keene.
Throughout his life, Dennis continually showed his love of God, most recently attending Grace Church Fishers. He served in the church in many capacities and through the church and in the community over the years. Dennis was known to lend a helping hand to whoever needed it. From stopping to helping a stranded motorist on the side of the road to plowing neighbors’ snow covered drives, Dennis could always be counted on to help.
Dennis had a passion for cars that started when he was young. He has been restoring a 1965 Volkswagen Beetle for the past 15 years. When Dennis and Rhonda took a drive in the Bug, Dennis was thrilled that he and his Bug brought so many big smiles, enthusiastic thumbs up, honks, etc when passsing strangers. It made his day!
Dennis enjoyed Sushi, golfing, corn hole, NASCAR, good tequilla, wine tasting, bowling, pretzel and donut making at home with family and friends, grilling on his Smoker Grill, napping as he "watched" NASCAR (NAP SCAR we lovingly called it) mowing the lawn as he loved a well maintained yard. An 8' Sasquatch that he got for his birthday watched over him as he cut the grass in the back yard. Years go, Dennis played on the King of Glory Lutheran Church softball team which was a fun, family event.
He was a doer around the house constantly and could fix pretty much anything. He loved watching his grandchildren in their various activities.
A few of his favorite vacations include: Lake Cumberland, Napa, CA, Sedona, AZ, Hilton Head, NC, Destin, FL and , of course, anywhere family lives!
A few special places he loved: Grace Church Fishers. Walking especially on The Monon in Carmel. Kentucky with NASCAR friends for a long weekend. 10 West Restaurant, Cicero. Daniel's Vineyard, Indianapolis. Walking to Wolfies across Geist Bridge. Music in the Park at a variety of locations including Conner Prairie, Noblesville. Bongees Tavern, Perkinsville. He participated in the Mini Marathon (a part of the Indianapolis 500 festiviites. Although he wasn't a runner, he could walk FAST!
Dennis could often be found spending his weekends with family and friends, watching the Indianapolis Colts or just hanging out.
Dennis was recently recognized for 35 years of impeccable employment at Sysmex America in anticipation of full retirement scheduled for December 2021. He utilized his Electronic Engineering degree to provide elite diagnosis and repair of biomedical laboratory equipment across central Indiana. Sysmex utilized his vast “intellectual capital” not only in a local account capacity but nationally in assisting with peer training/mentoring and process improvements across all aspects of the business. His work ethic and customer service skills set the “standard” for others to strive to obtain! His reach was wide, and he was beloved by all that were fortunate enough to be associated with this Servant’s giving soul!!
